Ko-uchi-gari into Yoko-tomoe-nage
Some partners answer the inner reap by driving forward into you. Yoko-tomoe-nage uses that drive: you go down and sideways deliberately, and they travel over the top.

Step by step
The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.
- Take your right grips and reap their right foot inwards.
- Feel them push forward into you to smother the attack.
- Keep pulling on both grips and drop your hips low and slightly to your left side, not straight back.
- Place the sole of your right foot on the inside of their left hip and sit through underneath them.
- Pull with both hands and extend your right leg to send them in a circle over your shoulder.
- They land on their back beyond your head; keep the sleeve throughout so the circle stays controlled. Build this one up gradually.
Receiving it
Driving forward to smother the reap is a real defence, and this answer uses it: they drop and go sideways under you, a foot arrives on the inside of your hip, and your own forward drive carries you over the top in a circle. Once you are turning, stay long and let it happen rather than twisting out. Keep your chin tucked, slap with your free arm as your back lands beyond their head, and expect the sleeve to stay held all the way round.
VI judo notes
Their forward drive is unmistakable in both hands, and it is what the sacrifice needs, so this combination reads well from contact. Place your foot on their hip by sliding it up their thigh rather than reaching for the spot. Because you go to the mat first and they land beyond your head, agree the direction and the space before you drill it, and build the circle up gradually.
