Step by step
The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.
- Take your right grips and reap the inside of their left leg backwards with your right leg.
- Feel them swing that leg back out of the reap, their weight tipping forward between their feet.
- Keep turning rather than starting again: pull their right sleeve up and across so their chest comes onto your back.
- Bring your hips in tight against theirs, your back against their front and your knees bent.
- Swing your right leg back between their legs and lift the inside of their left thigh with the back of your own.
- They rotate over your hip and land on their back; keep the sleeve throughout.
Receiving it
Swinging the reaped leg back saves it and tips your weight forward between your feet, which is where the inner thigh throw lifts from. Their leg goes back between yours and your own thigh is taken from underneath. It is a fast, turning fall: stay tight to their back rather than reaching for the mat, chin tucked, and slap with your free left arm as your back lands.
VI judo notes
Do not reset between the two attacks. The reaping leg simply keeps travelling and comes back between their legs, so the throw is one continuous action and your leg never loses its reference. Their weight tipping forward is felt in your sleeve hand; pull it up and across so their chest arrives on your back by itself.
